The Gladwin Robotics Team had a fabulous first event!
Team 9227 participated at the First Robotics Competition Standish Event from Thursday evening through Saturday evening. 39 teams competed in qualification rounds with Gladwin's team finishing at an impressive 11th place. This feat earned the team an award for the Highest Ranked Rookie Team!
Due to their incredible autonomous abilities and scoring power, the team was heavily scouted and ultimately selected by the 7th ranked alliance captain to be on their playoff team. The alliance soundly beat the 2nd ranked alliance but eventually was eliminated in the competition.
The team had a great spirit and persevered through the whole event. Because of their incredible performance, the team also won the Rookie All Star Award. This award is given the the Rookie Team that shows the most potential in the First Robotics organization. Because the team won this award, they will travel to Saginaw Valley State University on April 6-8th to compete at the state level in an interview process against 25 other Rookie Teams who also won the award at their qualifying matches. The top two interview teams will then SKIP the National Competition and go straight to the World First Robotics Competition in Houston, TX.
No team members had ever ATTENDED a robotics competition, let alone competed in one. The team learned a lot about engineering, mechanics, coding, themselves, and each other.
Team 9227's next event is Thursday - Saturday in Battle Creek.
